Whether it’s the baroque church tower of Castelrotto, the chapels on the Kofel hill or the legendary ruins at the bottom of the Santner: the Sciliar region is rich in cultural treasures, well-preserved frescoes and adventurous legends. Worth seeing, besides the historic village centre with its painted houses, is Prösels Castle near Fiè allo Sciliar, where you can listen to many concerts on warm summer nights.

South Tyrol has many museums where you can discover unique cultural treasures, exciting stories and interesting personalities. You will find several of them in the Sciliar region: The Farmers’ Museum in St. Oswald takes its visitors on a journey into everyday life as a farmer before the war. The school museum in Tagusens shows impressions of old school days in historical classrooms with blackboards, exercise books and satchels. The museum of traditional costumes in Castelrotto is well known for its beautiful garments, which are still worn today on special ceremonial occasions such as processions or church days.

Among the highlights of the diverse and worth seeing museums in South Tyrol are the Messner Mountain Museums of the mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner and the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, where the sensational find of the glacier mummy Ötzi is housed and provides an insight into the past in an interesting and interactive way.
